Shivan


Scientific Name: Gmelina arborea
Common Name: Shivan, false teak.
Habit: a large tree
The roots are used in Des-mool Arishtum (wine). It can be used as a good avenue tree, and provides shade, the tree grows tall. It is a good fodder plant, and helps in increasing the milk production in cattle. Its whitish wood is used in furniture making. Its wood is one of the most costliest in the market and the reasons are because the wood is durable and light.
